The school has a core reading scheme, together with many associated schemes from our Reading Resource Areas. Parental involvement has been a long standing tradition of the school and many parents come in every morning to assist hearing children read.
In language great emphasis is given to developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Our broad based curriculum and our agreed schemes incorporate the National Curriculum Programme of Study. However all areas of the curriculum are under constant review and will be adapted in light of announcements from the Secretary of State for Education.
Computers play a large part in the education of our children. The school has created a Computer suite housing 35 Personal Computers. We have been linked to the Internet since 1997. We have Broadband technology facilities. There is a large library of educational software and stock of hardware equipment covering most areas of the curriculum but this is being updated all the time. The Governors have embarked upon a three Year plan for ICT where pupils and families will see a greater use of newly purchased laptops and cameras.
We try to develop a lively, practical curriculum in which the learning of the children is based on first hand relevant experiences. We make every effort to use the immediate local environment.
Parents, Governors and other visitors come into the school to work with the children and to support the staff in their work. We hope through all aspects of the curriculum, our school is an interesting and exciting place for children to learn and gain fulfillment.
We recognise that in addition to having a moral obligation to educate our pupils to their fullest potential, the school also has a duty towards its staff. We must enable staff to develop professional interests and expertise. To this end the school offers a supportive framework providing staff with training which will allow them to respond to the needs of their pupils, the changes that are happening in schools, and enable staff to cope with these new innovations.
